The U.S. marshals service plans to sell the confiscated bitcoins for the sum of 25 million U.S. dollars
The US marshals service has announced that it plans to auction about 2170 bitcoins confiscated in the course of various Federal, civil and administrative cases.
The auction will take place on March 19, 2018 and will last from 8 am to 2 PM (EDT). Applicants wishing to participate in the auction must complete the registration process before March 14 and make a Deposit of us $ 200,000.
Bitcoins will be offered in 14 packages: two packages of 500 BTC, 11 packages of 100 BTC and one package of about 70 BTC. The winning bidders will be notified after the auction ends on the same day.
All cases in which bitcoins were seized are listed in a special notice posted on the website of the U.S. Marshal service. Among the listed cases mentioned is the case of Sean bridges, a secret service agent who was convicted of stealing $ 800,000 in bitcoins in 2015.
The U.S. marshals service has been repeatedly sold at auction for different amounts of bitcoins confiscated in the course of civil and criminal cases. On January 22, 2018, the Agency sold 3,813 BTC, which is currently equal to about 40 million dollars.
